Hyperdrive Innovation set to launch major new battery technology

Stuttgart, 9 October 2017 – Hyperdrive Innovation, the UK-based developer and manufacturer of lithium-ion battery technology for electric vehicles and energy storage systems is today launching its new modular battery platform at Europe’s leading trade show EVS30 in Stuttgart, Germany.

The new scalable battery will be available from 2018 and is the second modular system developed by Hyperdrive incorporating Nissan’s leading lithium-ion cells. The new model holds more energy and offers significantly better value for both electric vehicle and energy storage manufacturers making the transition to clean energy.  Hyperdrive’s new battery packs are more compact, providing 50% more energy density and a significantly lower cost per kWh.

Hyperdrive’s breakthrough follows the launch of the second-generation Nissan Leaf car and incorporates the same cell technology developed in Japan and manufactured in the UK.  This update to the first-generation product launched earlier this year, Hyperdrive’s energy systems are already being incorporated into a wide range of electric vehicles from airport and municipal fleets, to autonomous machines and heavy duty vehicles.

Allan Cairns, CEO of Hyperdrive Innovation, says: “As the market for electric vehicles continues to grow, our new battery platform offers manufacturers a more compact pack that delivers a longer range and a lower cost per kWh. Our expertise and engineering quality means customers can quickly and easily deploy one of our technology into an application without the need for costly development. It is why Hyperdrive is helping major global companies to electrify and expand their product ranges whether it is construction equipment or robots as well responding to the growing demand for stationary energy storage.”

EVS30 takes place on 9th – 11th October 2017 in Stuttgart, Germany Co-located with Battery + Storage show. Hyperdrive has been invited by the Society of Motors Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) to join their UK pavilion featuring leading technology businesses and the latest innovations. EVS30 is the largest trade fair and conference event for electric mobility which brings together researchers, government representatives and industry experts from around the world.
