The announcement last month that Formula E is to partner with the Greenpower Education Trust will see students from ten schools at locations around the world given the chance to design and build their own electric race car, which will then race on the full Formula E race tracks at 5 of the next 10 races.

Hyperdrive’s Technical Director Chris Baylis, a Trustee Director and North East Ambassador for the charity is working with Newcastle University to attract and support schools through this initiative to promote sustainable engineering to young people.

Last week, Chris joined students from Haydon Bridge High School at the Croft Racing Circuit to put the first vehicles through their paces. The programme is open to students from aged 9 years and through to 25 years with local funding available to support schools taking part.
