Pam Lewin

Purchasing Manager

With over 20 years of buying experience within the private electronic manufacturing, engineering and retail system environments, Pam joined Hyperdrive as a Purchasing Manager from Petards Limited. She started her buying career in the electronics defence industry, before gaining experience in the engineering and retail sectors, providing an extensive range of buying and supply chain services.  Pam holds CIPS status and graduated with a BA (Hons) degree in Management. She manages a small team and is responsible for all company procurement.

“My role at Hyperdrive evolves as the business grows from strength to strength. I buy in materials for new projects, monitor supply performance, audit new suppliers and oversee import and export logistics. Each project we work on is different to the next, so the supply chain and material requirements change each time. I manage customer’s expectations as well as coordinating internally with the project management and engineering teams”.

To be successful in purchasing you have to be task orientated, understand the supply chain as well as the key suppliers you are working with, Pam advises. “It’s a must to understand each project and its unique requirements in order to get the job done. You have to be structured in your approach, be realistic of timescales and always maintain an awareness of quality, cost and delivery.”

“I deal with suppliers in the UK but also in Europe and Asia, so building and maintaining relationships is essential. Being able to negotiate a good price in time for production schedules can be challenging at times but keeping clearly defined tasks overcomes any issues.”

Pam has found establishing the purchasing department at Hyperdrive an exciting challenge.

“Hyperdrive is on the very edge of new technology. The company has so much potential as it grows into new spaces. There’s real opportunity for me to utilise my knowledge of procedures and practices to not only develop our current supply chain, but to strengthen it as the business and our products evolve.”
